Reiki is an energy healing modality which draws upon universal life force energy (the energy within all living beings) and works towards the highest possible good of that whom is receiving energy (or, the client). It works at the subtle energy level and aims to help heal the root cause of dis-ease within the body, whether that be emotional, physical, mental, or spiritual, by supporting the body’s natural ability to heal and rebalance. It is a gentle, non-invasive energy therapy that helps your body relax, release tension, and restore balance.
While the exact mechanism isn’t fully explained by conventional medicine, research suggests Reiki helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system – the “rest and digest” state – by lowering heart rate, reducing blood pressure, and promoting deep relaxation.
At Moonlit Healing, Reiki is delivered by a Registered Nurse and certified Reiki practitioner, blending professional healthcare knowledge with the restorative power of energy healing.
*Please note, no medical advice is given during sessions at Moonlit Healing. The practitioner at Moonlit Healing works only as a Reiki Practitioner – if you are looking for medical advice, please see an appropriate healthcare professional.

The History of Reiki

Mikau Usui (1865-1926)
Usui, born in 1864, experienced a profound spiritual awakening that enabled him to channel universal life energy for healing without draining his own vitality. He named this practice Reiki and shared it across Japan until his passing in 1926.
Chujiro Hayashi (1878-1940)
The lineage continued with the second Grandmaster, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, a former naval officer, who was initiated as a Reiki Master by Usui in 1925. Hayashi later trained Hawayo Takata, supporting her in introducing Reiki to Hawaii.

Hawayo Takata (1900-1980)
Hawayo Takata studied Reiki in Japan before returning to Hawaii, where she began teaching and ensured the practice was preserved. A dedicated teacher and promoter, she offered Reiki classes throughout Hawaii and across the U.S. mainland. Before her passing, she trained 22 Reiki Masters, who carried forward her legacy, expanding and sharing Reiki worldwide.
Phyllis Furumoto (1948-2019)
Phyllis, Hawayo Takata’s granddaughter, was born in Texas in 1948 and received her Reiki training directly from her grandmother. Committed to continuing the path of Reiki and mastery, she became one of the 22 Reiki Masters her grandmother had trained before passing in December 1980.
